GoPro Streaming
To use the GoPro as a wireless camera, you have to do a few things before adding it as a source in vMix. These are the basic steps.
- Turn on the GoPro (duh)
- Make sure you have the GoPro App installed on your phone with Bluetooth enabled, so it can connect.
- In the app, click on the live stream tab after the app sucessfully connected to the GoPro
- Select "Other RTMP"
- For the Wi-Fi network choose the "Halo Sports" network NOT staff or any other STA network as it will not be able to pass the captive portal.
- The RTMP URL streamed to should be: "RTMP://live.stahalo.net/live/gopro"
- Make sure the quality is set to 1080p and "Save a copy" is UNCHECKED
Now you're done with the app setup, you can install the GoPro anywhere within solid Wi-Fi coverage.
The GoPro will not last more than 30 minutes without an external battery pack!
Make sure to grab a fully charged external battery pack and a long enough USB-A to USB-C cable, and it should last more than 3 hours.
Once you've fully setup the GoPro come back to vMix and follow these steps to access the stream as a source.
- Add a new input "Stream/SRT" in vMix
- For stream type, hit the dropdown and select VLC (RTMP...)
- The URL should be the exact same that you set in the GoPro so: "rtmp://live.stahalo.net/live/gopro"
- Done!
While the stream has about ~3-4 seconds of delay due to the overhead of streaming directly on the GoPro; sending it to an external server and back, it should be adequate for replays and for non-critical live shots. Such as a student section camera, as the audio will not sync up.
